Legal, regulatory, and disclosure information
A single page that spells out clearly who we are, what we do (and don't) do, and how South African consumer-credit law fits in.
We are not a credit provider
Lumo Loans is a loan enquiry and referral service. We do not lend money, approve loans, price loans, or collect repayments. Only the registered credit provider you are matched with does those things.
The National Credit Act (NCA)
Every credit provider on our panel is registered with the National Credit Regulator (NCR) and operates under the National Credit Act. The NCA sets rules for interest rate caps, fee caps, mandatory affordability assessments, disclosure of the cost of credit, and your rights as a consumer.
Loan terms and APR
Repayment terms, fees, and annual interest rates (APR) vary between credit providers and depend on your personal circumstances. Any credit provider must disclose the full cost of credit in writing before you sign a loan agreement.
Representative loan example
We haven't included a fixed representative example on this page yet — we'd rather show nothing than invent a figure. Our interactive loan calculator lets you build your own illustrative example. The final numbers on any real loan come from the credit provider you're matched with.
POPIA — your data rights
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and why
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate or out of date
- Ask us to delete your personal information, subject to legal record-keeping
- Object to further processing or withdraw your consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@lumoloans.co.za. See our privacy policy for full detail.
If you can't pay
Missing a loan payment can affect your credit record and may lead to further fees, interest, or legal action by the credit provider. If you think you may struggle to pay, contact your credit provider directly as soon as possible — they're often able to help. You can also speak to a registered debt counsellor.
Reporting a concern
If something on this site — or the conduct of a credit provider you were introduced to — doesn't feel right, please contact us. Serious concerns can also be raised with the National Credit Regulator.
Ready to see your options?
Answer a few quick questions and we'll show which of our registered credit providers may be a fit. It takes about two minutes and won't affect your credit score.
Lumo Loans is a loan enquiry and referral service. We are not a credit provider. Any loan is subject to the credit provider's own criteria and affordability assessment, in line with the National Credit Act.
